Aromatherapy / Essential Oils: Lavender
Lavender is the most versatile of all aromatherapy oils. Most commonly known for its relaxing effects on the body, therapeutic grade lavender has been highly regarded for the skin / digestive system and is a very effective sleep aid.
Applying aromatherapy oil to the skin allows the micro-particles of the oil to mix with the sebum of your skin absorbing through into the body's lymphatic system, into the soft tissue eventually moving into the bloodstream delivering a therapeutic benefit to the individual.
I mainly apply lavender aromatherapy oil when clients have expressed or shown signs of stress and anxiety as multiple studies have suggested administration of lavender reduces anxiety, Anti-inflammatory properties of lavender are also well documented. For most body treatments I combine lavender with peppermint oil which is another aromatherapy
oil, a well known natural pain killer and muscle relaxant which has proven to be a great combination to help clients relax and reduce their muscle pain.
I also incorporate lavender oil at the end of every treatment during the neck and scalp massage to leave clients feeling more relaxed and calm especially after finishing an intense sports massage.
